來源頭條作者:劍橋MSE考試資訊“清明”是中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)二十四節(jié)氣（the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms）中的第五個(gè)節(jié)氣，也是諸多節(jié)氣中唯一一個(gè)與傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日“清明節(jié)”（Tomb Sweeping Day）重合的節(jié)氣。

因“清”“明”二字皆為描述天氣的詞語(yǔ)，所以“清明”的英語(yǔ)表達(dá)為Clear and Bright。

清明節(jié)的英語(yǔ)表達(dá)

說到清明節(jié)，你可能想到的是Qingming Festival。

festival有兩層含義：

① 宗教的祭祀活動(dòng)

② 又唱又跳的慶祝活動(dòng)

√ Jewish festival 猶太教節(jié)日

√ a rock festival 搖滾音樂節(jié)

清明節(jié)并不屬于這兩者范圍，像這類較為莊嚴(yán)的其實(shí)可以用Day來表示，比如Mother's Day母親節(jié)；清明節(jié)是祭祀祖先亡靈的日子，我們經(jīng)常會(huì)掃墓。所以叫做：

√ Tomb Sweeping Day 清明節(jié)

別的節(jié)日可以慶祝（celebrate），但是清明節(jié)卻有其特殊性，只能用observe。

也有人把清明節(jié)翻譯為“All Souls' Day”，這是一種站在西方文化角度考慮做出的翻譯。因?yàn)椤癆ll Souls' Day”在西方是確實(shí)存在的節(jié)日，一般稱為“萬(wàn)靈節(jié)”。

這是一個(gè)宗教節(jié)日，在有的教派里甚至不止一天。教會(huì)會(huì)在這一天為那些去世后無法進(jìn)入天堂的信徒祈禱，希望他們?cè)缛者M(jìn)入天堂。其基本意義和清明節(jié)相似，也是祭奠死者的節(jié)日。

清明節(jié)的食俗

√ Green rice ball 青團(tuán)

People in the Jiangnan region often eat this kind of green colored balls made from glutinous rice on Tomb Sweeping Day. The green color is from the juice of brome grass that is added in the rice.

江南地區(qū)的人們經(jīng)常在清明節(jié)食用這種由糯米制成的綠色團(tuán)子。由于糯米中混合雀麥草汁，所以團(tuán)子呈綠色。

√ Cudweed herb rolls 清明果

The best time to pick fresh cudweed herb is around Tomb Sweeping Day. The herb is often added in veggie rolls or dumplings and consumed on the day. In South China, people add the wild plant also in steamed buns.

清明節(jié)前后，是采摘新鮮鼠曲草（清明草）的最佳時(shí)機(jī)。當(dāng)天，人們會(huì)在蔬菜卷或餃子里加入鼠曲草當(dāng)作餡料。在華南地區(qū)，人們還將這種野菜加在饅頭里面。

√ Thin pancake 薄餅

People in Xiamen in Fujian province often have thin pancakes on Tomb Sweeping Day. Dried seaweed, omelette, veggies and chili sauce are added in the pancakes to enhance the flavor.

福建廈門的人在清明節(jié)時(shí)常常食用薄煎餅。薄餅中加入紫菜、煎蛋、蔬菜和辣椒醬，會(huì)更加美味。

清明節(jié)的習(xí)俗

1. 掃墓

祭祖 /上供

paying respect to the dead person with offerings (including a veriety of food, fruits, drinks and flowers)

用祭品來紀(jì)念逝者

2. 踏青，春游

Spring outings not only add joy to life but also promote a healthy mind and body.

清明節(jié)外出踏青等活動(dòng)不僅給生活增添了歡樂，也促進(jìn)了身心的健康。

3. 放風(fēng)箏

Flying Kites

Flying kites is also closely associated with the Qingming Festival.

放風(fēng)箏也是和清明節(jié)密切聯(lián)系的一項(xiàng)活動(dòng)。

4. 插柳

Planting Willow Trees

Because Jie Zitui died embracing a willow tree, the willow is believed to have miraculous powers against evil. During the Qingming Festival, willow branches are hung on door fronts and used to sweep the tombs

因?yàn)榻樽油扑赖臅r(shí)候抱著一棵柳樹，所以柳樹被認(rèn)為擁有一種可以對(duì)抗邪惡的神奇力量。清明時(shí)節(jié)，人們會(huì)將柳枝掛在門前，或拿柳枝進(jìn)行掃墓。

“去世”更合適的英文表達(dá)

和中文表達(dá)一樣，說去世比死亡要合適很多。

√ be left 離世

√ I lost someone 失去了某人

√ someone is in a better place 去了更好的地方

√ rest in peace 安息

國(guó)外現(xiàn)在很多人不再稱葬禮為funeral，而是用下面這個(gè)短語(yǔ)來?yè)Q個(gè)角度看待死亡：a celebration of life 生命的儀式，更顯尊重。

緬懷先人，

孝敬長(zhǎng)輩，

珍惜身邊人，

也許這正是清明節(jié)的意義所在。
